![]() There are two ways that you can create this costume – with or without the skirt. I cut two breast pieces because when they are sewn together, it gives it a nice firm look and two layers keep the brown from showing through. Then fold the paper pattern in half and place it on the folded fabric and cut the fabric around the paper pattern. If you are not comfortable doing it this way, create a pattern by drawing the breast piece on a piece of paper so that you can see how it looks. Next, I cut another two inch black strip of black velvet that will be centered on the cream tail.įor the breast piece, it is best to fold the cream velvet in half and then cut a half oval by cutting away from the fold and then cut into the sides away from the fold at the top. The sides of the triangle should be cut the equal the width of the stripe down the back. I want the stripe to go all the way from the neck down to the about the buttocks or where you want the tail to be.įor the tail, I cut two pieces of cream velvet that are almost a triangle but with rounded corners. I also cut a two inch wide strip in black velvet that will go down the center of the cream stripe. Once I have sewn them together, the cream stripe will end up about five inches wide. For a child or larger adult, the width of the stripes, the tail and the breast piece will vary accordingly.įor the stripe down the back, I cut two six inch wide strips of the cream velvet. You could use type of fabric you prefer as long as it stretches. ![]() However, you do not have to use velvet for the biketard or the fabric pieces. I am using a four-way stretch material that is available on our website or you could get it at almost any fabric store. I like the stretch velvet because I like the feel, the fact it has a kind of light furry look and it stretches. If it will be worn in cooler weather, you may want to use a regular biketard because it covers the back and has long sleeves.įor the breast piece, the stripe and the tail, I am using cream stretch velvet and black velvet for the stripe down the back and the tail. However, you could also use a biketard with a regular neck or you could even use a unitard, a skirt, a dress or whatever works for you to build something like this. I am using a brown velvet halter biketard for the body. It is a fun, cute little costume perfect for that junior high age.
